If there is something that can remind you of childhood, I believe the happiest of summers can do just that. I remember the visit to Bantayan Island at nine, diving its clear waters, riding over the katig of a speeding bangka, harvesting sea urchins and cracking them for a meal on the boat, battling the tiny crabs in their coral home, probably getting the darkest tan ever in such a skinny frame, and pouring vinegar over jellyfish stings. For the return ride from Guimaras recently, the salt in the air, my sticky face from the breeze, smelling like a damp sun, road dust covering my slippered feet, the tricycle ride, and staring fierce light through squinted eyes, I was brought back to such a dear state of happiness and carefree adventure.
